Noida Authority Begins Returning Residential Plots to Farmers After 20 Years, Sector- 145
The Noida Authority has finally started returning residential plots to thousands of farmers whose land was acquired for urban development nearly two decades ago. This marks a major breakthrough in one of the region's longest-running land disputes, involving years of court hearings and bureaucratic delays.
On Saturday, Authority officials formally took over and began marking 31 hectares of land in Begumpur, Sector 145. They installed boundary pillars under tight security, with senior police officers like the ACP and DCP supervising the process, supported by a large police team.
Around 2,200 farmers will benefit from this move. Each is entitled to receive 5% of their acquired land back as residential plots.
A senior Authority official said,
"We are committed to speeding up the possession process after years of legal complications. Today's exercise is just the beginning."
The dispute dates back to November 2007, when the Authority issued land acquisition notices for 108 hectares under the Land Acquisition Act. However, a stay order from the Allahabad High Court in February 2008 temporarily halted the acquisition.
After the stay was lifted, the Authority acquired 7 hectares in June 2008 and the remaining 101 hectares in June 2013. Farmers received compensation between January 2011 and December 2013.
Sector 145, where this land is located, lies along the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, making it a highly strategic and valuable area.
